What is Music Therapy?

Music therapy is a clinical and evidence-based practice that uses music to address emotional, cognitive, physical, social and musical needs within a therapeutic musical relationship. It is facilitated by a board-certified music therapist who tailors music experiences such as improvisation and instrumental play, singing, music and movement, songwriting, recording, receptive music listening, and guided imagery and music. Depending on an individual's unique goals mixed media experiences such as story writing, journaling, and art to music may be facilitated to support a client's need.
